West Columbus High School cheered on its football team Friday morning as players departed campus for third-round tournament play for the first time in the school’s history.

Students and staff lined the sidewalk in front of the school as deputies from Columbus County Sheriff’s Office escorted two charter buses carrying the football team and cheerleaders. Many of the well-wishers held homemade signs and banners as they cheered the Vikings on. Middle school students who are attending classes on the WCHS campus while their new school is under construction also participated in the celebration.
