Whiteville police have now charged four people in connection with a shooting last week on Whiteville’s west side.
On Thursday, Jan. 12, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Whiteville police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Lewis Street, WPD Chief Doug Ipock said in a news release that night.
One person was struck by gunfire but was treated and released on the scene, Ipock said.
Officers apprehended Brice Pridgen, 21, and charged him the day of the shooting with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries with intent to kill. A warrant listed Pridgen’s address as Brookberry Apartments in Whiteville.
Three more people were charged Tuesday, Jan. 17, in connection with the shooting. Brayshaun Zarchary Davis, 18, Bradley O’Brian Pridgen, 24, and Antonio Alex Dobie, 33, were each charged with going armed to the terror of people. Davis was also charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle, and Dobie was also charged with injury to personal property.
Just before 4 p.m. the day of the shooting, Ipock said that several people were in custody.
Officers recovered two 9mm pistols, one 7.62 Riley Defense long gun and one 5.56 Delton long gun during the investigation, according to the news release. The Riley Defense long gun was stolen.
The news release did not provide details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but Ipock told The News Reporter earlier on the scene that it appeared that a vehicle and a house had been struck by gunfire. Bullet casings and broken glass could be seen in the roadway of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between Lewis and Burkhead streets.
Although the shooting happened just a few blocks from Central Middle School around dismissal, Ipock said CMS students were not involved.
